In too many cases, inexperience or unregulated concrete practitioners have culminated into a “good enough” work practice attitude, that fails to meet the truest meaning of “Code Complaint” standards!

The main reason for this is, that many performers do their work outside a Building Permit’s regulatory overview. Why?…Because new and replacement concrete doesn’t require a Building Permit in many cases, and even in instances where it is required (swimming pool remodeling), a permit submission isn’t often requested for issuance.

Having seen bad results happen many, many times over the past forty years, we have discovered that a bad job can almost always be traced back to a lack of preparation and inexperience, while dealing with the catalyst reaction that takes place in curing concrete.

The biggest problem is, the time sensitive window of opportunity that exist between when the Ready Mix Concrete Product is mixed, then dispatched and when it is poured out, placed and finished.

Time is of the essence…

Ideally, a Ready Mix Truck from time of dispatch to unloading shouldn’t exceed a (45) forty five minute span of time. Furthermore, the maximum complete revolutions that the spinning drum mixer makes, shouldn’t exceed 300 revolutions, by the time it is poured out. These are often the specified requirements on State and Federal public works projects. So…ask yourself, is your project any less important?

Because Concrete Batch Plants can be further away from a given pour location, than is practical to serve, an assortment of time consuming mishaps can leave your concrete ready mix product defective before it ever hits the ground.

One of the main problems is that when a truck rolls and a crew is staged, well then…a great deal of money is riding on the only results that are billable, the measured square footage on the ground!

After Batched Hydration…Bad Water!

Unfortunately, added water to the load design, in order to make it more workable is a common trick, together with other add mix products that can also impact appearance and compression strength.

As the concrete begins to harden and setup, it’s temperature rises, and by adding water at the job site it offers a superficial temporary remedy, in order to increase the concrete’s plasticity. The tradeoff is durability and strength, which are often swept aside in favor of ease and speed of placement.

The reality is, this makes your concrete weaker and in most cases, it will also void your warranty from the Ready Mix Supplier. If you doubt this, read the disclaimer on the Batch Plant’s trip ticket.

Unless you are a concrete expert and know what to look for, then you probably aren’t going to see the difference until long after you’ve paid for the service. Most Concrete Flat-Work only carries a (1) one year warranty and those nagging issues may not begin to appear until that time has expired.
